WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore
Nick Costello (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) found the ball, jumped and wrestled the ball away from a Lebanon Valley defender, leaving him in the dust while turning around to score on a 34-yard pass with 1:25 left to lift the Lycoming College football team to a 27-24 Middle Atlantic Conference win on Saturday, Oct. 22, at David Person Field.
The play capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive that helped Lycoming (3-4 overall, 2-4 MAC) overcome a run of 24 straight points by Lebanon Valley (1-5 overall, 1-4 MAC), as the Warriors had built a 21-0 lead in the game's opening 21 minutes.
After the touchdown, the Flying Dutchmen drove to the Lycoming 41 on nine plays before sophomore
Joe Pinzka (Perkasie, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) leapt up to haul in an errant pass with 19 seconds left to ensure the win.

Blake Bowman (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) rushed seven times for 93 yards and a 57-yard score to lead Lycoming's offense, while Costello caught a career-high six passes for 96 yards and two scores. Senior

Collin Wright (Secane, Pa./Ridley) went 4-of-5 for 48 yards and a score.

After a three-and-out on its first drive, the Warriors embarked on a seven-play, 67-yard drive to start the game's scoring, with Costello catching a 29-yard pass for the big play in the drive to get the ball to the Lebanon Valley 28. A 12-yard rush from junior
Brock Zollicoffer (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) moved the ball to the 10 and two plays later, Whiteman found Costello for a nine-yard score.
As the first quarter came to a close, Wright was in the midst of leading the Warriors on a 10-play, 56-yard drive, as he found senior
Keeghan Morrison (Loysville, Pa./West Perry) for a 12-yard score with 12:14 left in the second quarter.
After Williams' interception gave Lycoming the ball at its own 43, Bowman broke free for a 57-yard touchdown, the longest rush of his career, making it 21-0.
Lebanon Valley began its comeback with a four-yard touchdown run by Jon Jones with 28 seconds left in the half. In the third quarter, while Lycoming managed just 30 yards of total offense, the Dutchmen closed within a touchdown with a 30-yard score from Tyler Sterner to Michael Gaval.
A field goal early in the fourth quarter made it a four-point game and a fumble deep in Lycoming's territory with 6:09 left gave Lebanon Valley the ball at the Lycoming 22 after Corey Keen fell on the ball. Four plays later, Gaval hauled in a nine-yard catch to take the lead, setting up Lycoming's response from Costello.
Sterner finished 11-of-19 for 119 yards and two touchdowns after entering the game in the second quarter, while Brendon Irving finished with 20 carries for 105 yards to lead the Dutchmen offense. Gaval added four catches for 59 yards and two scores.
Alex Trujillo led the Dutchmen with six tackles and two sacks and Kyle Murray added six stops and forced fumble.
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 29, when they head to Wilkes University for a 1 p.m. MAC game.
