Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warriors use second-half goals to down Pride, 2-0

CHESTER, Pa. – Two second-half goals stopped a five-half scoreless stretch and helped lift the Lycoming College men's soccer team to an important 2-0 MAC Commonwealth win over Widener University on Saturday night, Oct. 15, at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

The Warriors (7-5-3 overall, 2-2-1 MAC Commonwealth) stopped a two-game skid thanks to a great effort in the second half, as Lycoming didn't allow a shot to get past its last line of defenders in the second half, with just one shot being blocked recorded in the half.

The win also helped the Lycoming senior class of Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh), Mike Amaya (Stockton, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional), Jason Coles (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional), Dom Haynes (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), Stallon Ndawula (Rockville, Md./Montgomery Blair) and Alfonce Mutuku (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic) tie the school's record for wins by a class with their 51st win – as the sextet has posted a 51-18-12 (.704) to tie the mark set by the 1995 class, which went 51-25-2 (.667).

Lycoming's offense, which has scored 27 of its 29 goals this year in the second half, got going in the 75th minute when junior Kyle Stettenbauer (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) dented the twine with a shot. Junior Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) clinched the win in the 83rd minute with his 24th career goal on a penalty kick.

Logan is tied for eighth in program with 24 career goals, while his 60 career points is tied for ninth in program history.

Gildea made one save to earn the win, as the Lycoming defense led by junior Kyle Thomas (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and sophomore Sainclair Tueno (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) allowed just three first-half shots and one in the second half. Gildea's 13 career shutouts are tied for fourth in program history.

Lycoming, meanwhile, fired 14 shots in the game, forcing Dave Sousa to make three saves in the loss for Widener. The Warriors have won four straight games against the Pride, all by a 2-0 score.

The Warriors moved into a tie for fourth in the MAC Commonwealth with Arcadia thanks to the win, and will face second-place Lebanon Valley in another important conference clash on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 3:30 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
