YORK, Pa. – Sophomore
Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) drove in a penalty kick in the 105
th minute to lift the Lycoming College men's soccer team to an improbable 3-2 double-overtime win against perennial regional powerhouse York (Pa.) on Sunday evening, Sept. 6, at Graham Field.

The Warriors (2-1 overall) scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the game to force overtime with the Spartans (1-2 overall), as Lycoming keyed the comeback to beat York for the first time in program history. It is Lycoming's first double overtime win since a 1-0 win over Lebanon Valley in the first round of the Commonwealth Conference Tournament on Nov. 4, 2013.

Lycoming got on the board in the 82
nd minute, as junior
Jason Coles (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) found the left corner of the net off a free ball dish from sophomore
Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area).

The Warriors kept the pressure on, forcing an offsides call and then earning a corner in the 87
th minute, setting up a goal when Abdi took the corner and sophomore
Jose Cooper (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) headed it into the top right corner.

In the first overtime, both teams had good opportunities, with Lycoming forcing York's keeper to make two saves and junior
Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) stopped one for the Warriors. In the fifth minute of the second overtime, Abdi drew a foul in the box and then calmly converted the penalty kick to give Lycoming the win.

York got on the board in the 13
th minute with a score from Greg Bechard and added a second score in the 67
th minute from Nigel Robinson, taking a 2-0 lead into the final 10 minutes, when Lycoming began its comeback.

Abdi finished with a goal and an assist as Lycoming held a 19-13 advantage in shots in the game.

Gildea (2-1) finished with five saves to earn the win for the Warriors and Charlie Johnson (1-2) made three saves and allowed three goals for the Spartans.

The game was littered with 49 foul calls and six yellow cards thanks to both teams' physical play.

The Warriors get back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 9, when they host Susquehanna University in the 15
th annual Battle for the Boot at the Shangraw Athletic Complex. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
