Warriors swept by Crusaders

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A late rally by Susquehanna University helped it stave off an upset attempt from the Lycoming College in the second game of Sunday, April 26's Cancer Awareness Cup doubleheader, as Lycoming fell, 3-2, after falling, 4-1, in the first game, to wrap up its 2015 season at Sassafras Field.
 
Susquehanna (30-5 overall) had a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning in the second game of the doubleheader to ensure a 3-2 win.
 
The Warriors (14-20 overall) broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning, as junior Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) led off with a walk, stole second and took third on the throw. Senior Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) followed with a single to left center. After junior Chelsey Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) pinch-ran, she took second when senior Nikki Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge Area) drew a walk before scoring on a single to center field by freshman Heather Secord (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area).
 
In the bottom of the inning, Brynn Musser and Leigh Ann Greenwald doubles to lead off the inning before Heather Pearson tied the game with a two-RBI single. Lauren Creamer hit a game-winning single with the next at bat, scoring Pearson from second.
 
Cierra Omlor and Pearson each had two hits to lead the Crusaders.
 
Lapano (6-6) pitched a complete game, allowing 10 hits and three runs. She struck out four in her last career appearance. Jamie Fesinstine (14-2) earned the win for Susquehanna, allowing three hits and two runs. She walked six and struck out eight in the game.
 
In the first game, Morgan Lewis threw a three-hitter to lead Susquehanna to the 4-1 win.
 
Susquehanna built a 3-0 lead, scoring one in the second and two more in the third before Lycoming cut into the lead with a fifth inning run. Sophomore Kelcie Crabb (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg) led off with a  walk before being pinch-run for by Poorman, who advanced to second on a one-out passed ball before scoring on a double to left field by senior Hannah Smith (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area).
 
The Crusaders rounded out the scoring in the bottom of the inning with a run on two hits and Lewis retired the last eight batters she faced to earn the win.
 
Alyssa Cantalini led the Crusaders, going 2-for-2 with a run, a triple and a RBI and Emilie Boman went 2-for-3 with a RBI.
 
Lewis stuck out four and walked two in the win, while Weaver (5-9) allowed nine hits and four runs in a complete game for the Warriors. She walked one and struck out three.
