WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Seniors
Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) and
Nikki Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) each racked up four hits during Sunday, April 19's Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with Lebanon Valley College, but Lebanon Valley edged Lycoming, 5-4, in nine innings in the first game before posting a 13-5 win in the second to secure the sweep.

The sweep buoys Lebanon Valley's playoff hopes as it improved to 9-21 overall and 6-8 in the Commonwealth Conference with two games remaining, while the Warriors fell to 14-14 overall and 4-10 in the conference.

The Warriors got three hits apiece from Lapano and Marianelli in the first game, but a ninth-inning rally yielded a run for Lebanon Valley, as it held on for a 5-4 win.

The Dutchmen got started in the ninth, as Jordyn Miller started the frame with a double to left field. After a fly out, she took third on a wild pitch and scored on a single up the middle by Jasmine Dutton.

Lycoming rallied with two outs in the bottom of the inning, as junior
Elisa Novak (Ambler, Pa./Germantown Academy), Marianelli and freshman
Heather Secord (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) all singled to load the bases, but a groundout ended the game.

The Warriors tied the game in the seventh inning, scoring a single run. Senior
Katie Pugh (Sykesville, Md./Century) led off with a single, moved to second on a sac bunt, third on a single by Lapano and scored on a sac fly by Marianelli.

The Dutchmen got on the board with a single run in the fourth inning, but Lycoming answered back with two hits. Junior
Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) led off the frame with an infield single before Lapano and Marianelli each singled to load the bases. A groundout and an infield single by junior
Kelcie Crabb (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg) helped score the runs.

Lebanon Valley took the lead back with two runs in the fifth before Lycoming tied it in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore
Morgan Kunes (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) was hit by a pitch to lead off before she moved to second on a sac bunt. After Weaver drew a walk, Lapano singled up the middle to load the bases for Marianelli, who delivered a single through the left side.

The Dutchmen took the lead in the sixth again, though, using a bunt single and two sac bunts that didn't yield outs to load the bases before a Sammy Bost walked in a run.

Weaver also finished 2-for-3 with a run and a walk, as Lycoming pounded out 12 hits and left 12 runners on in the game. Tessa Deardorff and Sammy Bost each had three hits at the top of the lineup for Lebanon Valley and Jordyn Miller added four hits and two RBI, as the Dutchmen posted 14 hits and left 15 on bases.

Haley Neff (4-10) earned the win for the Dutchmen, pitching all nine innings and allowing 12 hits and four runs. She walked one and struck out two. Freshman
Rachael Shady (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) (3-4) took the loss, allowing 14 hits and four earned runs in the complete game. She walked four and struck out one.

In the second game, the Dutchmen knocked 18 hits and clinched the win with a six-run sixth inning, as it posted the 13-5 win.

The Warriors answered a first-inning run from the Dutchmen, as Novak led off with a single, moved to second on a sac bunt and third on a groundout before Lapano drove her in with a single through the left side.

The Dutchmen took the lead with a three-run third inning, but Lycoming closed back within the a run in the third inning. Novak again started the rally by reaching on an error with one out. After a flyout, Weaver and Lapano walked to load the bases, setting up Marianelli, who singled into left field to score Novak before Weaver scored on an error.

Lebanon Valley added two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 7-3 lead before the Warriors responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Pugh singled to lead off before Weaver launched her 24
th career double to center field. After a flyout, Marianelli walked to load the bases. After a pop out, freshman
Ashley Schoenstadt (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) and Crabb each singled to bring in runs.

In the sixth, however, Lebanon Valley had seven of its first eight batters reach, with Jordyn Miller providing a two-run homer to highlight the six-run frame.

Pugh led the Warriors, who pounded out nine hits in the game, by going 2-for-3 with a run and both Weaver and Novak scored twice.

Tessa Deardorff led the Dutchmen, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBI and Sammy Bost went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI.

Haley Christensen (5-8) earned the win for Lebanon Valley, allowing seven hits and three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. Haley Neff picked up the save, allowing two hits and no runs in 1 1/3 innings. Weaver (5-7) took the loss for the Warriors, allowing six earned runs in five innings.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, April 22, when they host Elmira College in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
