Crabb lifts Warriors to split with Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – Sophomore Kelcie Crabb (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg) hit a 3-run homer in the first inning of the second game to help pace the Lycoming College softball team during a 16-hit attack as it posted an 11-5 win to salvage a split with Hood College after falling 8-7 in eight innings in the first game to open its Commonwealth Conference season on Monday afternoon, March 23.

Lycoming jumped out with five runs in the top of the first inning, knocking six hits in the inning. Freshman Heather Secord (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) led off the inning with a single before senior Katie Pugh (Sykesville, Md./Century) reached on a catcher's interference call, setting up junior Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area), who delivered a two-RBI double into the left-center gap.

Lycoming kept rolling, as senior Nikki Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge Area) delivered a single through the left side before a strikeout set up Crabb, who delivered a three-run one-out blast to dead center field.

The Blazers closed the gap in the fourth inning, as Ashley Fourcade hit a three-run homer to right field to make it 5-3. Lycoming answered back in the fifth, as sophomore Morgan Kunes (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) reached on a single before moving to third on two groundouts, setting up an RBI single from senior Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity).

Lycoming scored four more in the sixth to break open the game, bashing five hits in the inning. Freshman Rachael Shady (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) started the rally with a double. After a strikeout, Secord singled up the middle, setting up a single through the left side by Kunes to drive in Shady. An error helped Secord score before Marianelli singled to load the bases. Lapano followed with an infield single to score a run and a wild pitch helped the fourth run score.

Hood's Kayli Paugh homered in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-4. Lycoming added one more in the seventh inning, as junior Chelsey Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) singled to lead off before Secord doubled to center field. After an error to center field and a line out, Poorman scored on a sac fly. Hood rounded out the scoring with two hits that helped lead to a run in the bottom of the inning.
