Jackson ties record in season finale

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck/Anne Arundel C.C.) had a goal and an assist in the second half to lead the Lycoming College women's soccer team, as she tied an 11-year old school record for goals in a season, but Widener University had three first-half goals to post 3-2 win in MAC Commonwealth action on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 31, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Jackson finished the season with 15 goals, tying the mark set by Danielle Curry in the 2004 season, while her seven assists left her one point shy of Curry's school-record of 38, as Curry had 15 goals and eight assists during that season.

Down 3-0, the Warriors (9-9 overall, 2-6 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board in the 53rd minute when Jackson ran down the left sideline before crossing it, where it dropped down to the foot of senior Katie Cox (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill/Anne Arundel C.C.) and Cox dropped the shot into the left corner.

Lycoming continued to roll, as senior Nour Hasan (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) got the ball with space near midfield and fired a pass down the right sideline to sophomore Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and Lazrich delivered a perfect cross to Jackson for her 15th goal of the season.

Lycoming nearly got the equalizer in the 73rd minute, as Jackson had space on the left side and sent service in, just past the head of Lazarich, where it found the feet of sophomore Hannah Rinaldo (Minersville, Pa./Minersville), who lifted a shot just over the crossbar. In the 75th minute, Lycoming had another shot at an equalizer, with junior Madison Walmer (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) firing a shot from 30 yards out that Widener keeper Olivia Pfautz had targeted. Senior Bree Nishibun (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) had another chance from 30 yards in the 78th minute, but again Pfautz was in position to get the ball.

In the 80th minute, Lazarich had another great shot, getting the ball just outside the goalmouth and lofting a shot high that was dropped wide off the goal with a tip save by Pfautz. Just moments later, a corner kick led to a shot from the left side by junior Kaylynn Gose (Mount Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional), but it was cleared off the goalline by a Widener defender.

The Pride (6-10-1 overall, 2-6 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board in the 13th minute, when Stefanie Mindnich fired a rebound from a goalkeeper clear attempt high over everyone's head and into the net from 30 yards out. Mindnich got another chance just a minute later, beating the last defender, but the angle of her shot took it off the side of the net.

The Pride got their second score on a penalty kick from Brooke Palmieri in the 29th minute and scored a third time off a corner kick, with Karli Luker finding the back of the net in the 35th minute.

The Warriors had their best chance to score in the first half in the 38th minute, when Jackson beat a pair of defenders while advancing to goal before crossing a pass that deflected off a Pride defender before finding Lazarich. Lazarich's low shot was scooped up by Pfautz, however. Just a minute later, Jackson again busted past the last defender on the left side and fired a shot off Pfautz's chest, but the rebound was deflected away.

Brooke Palmieri led Widener with a goal and an assist, as the Pride fired nine shots on net, forcing Lycoming's freshman goalkeeper Helen Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) to make two saves.

The Warriors took 15 shots in the game, with Pfautz stopping eight shots for the Pride to post the hard-earned win.

Lycoming finished 9-9 overall and 2-6 in the MAC Commonwealth under third-year head coach Eric Lewis, the best record for the team since 2007. The team posted 41 goals during the season, tied for the third-most in program history.
