Warriors finish first day at conference tournament in ninth

HERSHEY, Pa. – Sophomore Zach Layser (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) led the Lycoming College golf team on the first day of the Commonwealth Conference Championship with a first-round 90 at the par-72, 6,551-yard Hershey Country Club East Course on Saturday, April 26.
 
Layser finished the day in 33rd-place in the 50 man tournament. Junior Nic McGee (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) was right behind Layser, sitting in a tie for 34th with a 93 and both senior Zack Czap (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) and sophomore William Dietz (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield Area) are tied for 38th after a first round 94. Rounding out Lycoming's entries, junior John Koch (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mountain) rounded out the team's entrants with a 102.
 
The Warriors, after the first round 371, are two shots ahead of Hood and 13 behind Arcadia, which is eighth at 358. Messiah leads the field after a first-day score of 320 and Stevenson's Ben Lukehart has a one-stroke lead in the individual standings after a first-round 76.
 
The Warriors wrap up the Commonwealth Conference Golf Championship on Sunday, April 27, teeing off at 8 a.m. on the Hershey Country Club East Course.
