YORK, Pa. – School records fell for both the Lycoming College men's and women's swim teams on the first day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center. Both teams finished the day in sixth place after the men's 200-yard medley relay team edged out the old school record and the women's 800-yard freestyle relay smashed the school record.

The first night of the championships featured two relay races, the 200-yard medley and the 800-yard freestyle, allowing some more rest time over the rest of the four-day meet.

The men's 200-yard medley squad dropped a meet-best 3.67 seconds off its seed time to finish fifth in 1:37.59 and edge out the school record of 1.37.84 set last year. Sophomore Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), sophomore Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick), junior Dan Woods (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) and senior C.J. Arhontakis (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) combined on the effort, with Woods cruising in 23.05 in his butterfly lap and Arhontakis finishing in 21.83 to set the record. The final two legs were swam by members of the 2013 squad, although Woods swam backstroke on that squad.

The women picked up Second Team All-MAC honors and smashed a school record in the 800-yard freestyle relay, as the team of sophomore Felicia Sloyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), junior Danielle Loiseau (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), junior Brigid Clark (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield) and freshman Cydnei Crust (Bellefonte, Pa./Commonwealth Connections Academy) dropped 10.26 off their seed time to post a time of 8:12.59, more than five seconds better than the time of 8:17.67 set at the 2010 MAC Championships.

In the women's 200-medley relay, the Warriors finished seventh despite dropping 2.94 seconds off their seed time to finish in 1:55.10. The team consisted of junior BethAnn Schwoyer (Williamsport, Pa./Homeschooled), sophomore Jilly Flynn (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), junior Alexia Follweiler (New Ringgold, Pa./Panther Valley) and junior Brigid Clark (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield).

In the men's 800-yard freestyle relay, the squad came close to setting a school record while finishing eight, finishing in 7:23.91, dropping 14.53 seconds off their seed time and falling two seconds shy of the record of 7:22.27 set in 2005. The team consisted of Woods, Apostolu, senior Zack Brower (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) and senior Jack Port (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff).

The MAC Championships will get into full swing on Friday morning, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m. with preliminary races before the 6 p.m. finals session.
