WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Senior 184-pounder Tyler Cunningham (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) won all three of his bouts to lead the Lycoming College wrestling team on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 2, at a quad-meet at Wilkes University, helping the Warriors to a 34-11 win over Trinity (Conn.) and a 20-15 win over McDaniel before the team fell to the seventh-ranked hosts, 43-3, to wrap up the event.
 
The Warriors (6-7 overall) had the benefit of three forfeits in its opening round, 34-18 win, over Trinity (Conn.) (6-12 overall).
 
The three forfeits came in the first four bouts, as Lycoming built up a 30-0 lead through the 165-pound match, as junior Zach Finn (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) posted a 6-1 win over Daniel Lofrese at 133 pounds, sophomore Brian Watkins (Bear Gap, Pa./Southern Columbia) notched a 4-0 win over Alex Manwaring at 149 pounds and junior Greg Wetzel (Arlington, N.Y./Pleasant Valley) pinned John Williams in the first period at 165 pounds.
 
Cunningham rounded out Lycoming’s scoring with an 8-0 major decision over William Youngblood, helping the team to its most team points in a dual meet since a 41-6 win over Case Western Reserve during the 2012 Budd Whitehill National Duals.
 
Against McDaniel, the Warriors overcame a five-point deficit after four bouts with five straight wins to post its 21^st straight win over the Green Terror (7-7 overall).
 
Sophomore Caleb Willey (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) got the Warriors on the board with four points at 141 points, posting a 10-2 major decision against Trey Mitchell to close within, 6-4. In the process, he also became the first Warrior to reach 20 wins on the season, finishing the day with a 20-13 record.
 
After a McDaniel win at 149 pounds, the Warriors rolled up 16 points during five straight wins to clinch the match. Watkins started the run at 157 with a 13-6 win over Luke Yox and Wetzel followed with an 11-0 major decision against Josh Moore at 165, giving Lycoming a 10-9 lead.
 
Junior Johnathan Secor (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes)  followed with a 3-1 win over Nick Cross at 174 and Cunningham notched a 2-0 win over Scott Forrester before sophomore Nikolas Christine (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) clinched the meet with a 6-3 win over Ricky Tisinger at 197 pounds.
 
Against seventh-ranked Wilkes (18-3 overall), Cunningham notched the team’s only win with a  4-1 decision over Seth Gray. Wilkes, meanwhile, had four pins and four major decisions en route to the win, as the Colonels swept the quad meet, also posting a 30-12 win over McDaniel and 36-6 win over Trinity.
 
The Warriors get back on the mat on Wednesday, Feb. 6, when they head to Stevens Tech for a 7 p.m. match.
