Rutgers-Camden halts Warriors’ postseason run

Box Score

CAMDEN, N.J. – The magical postseason run of the Lycoming College men's soccer team came to a halt on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 17, at No. 2/3 Rutgers-Camden, falling 4-0, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The loss brings to a close one of the most remarkable runs in the history of the Lycoming College athletics program, as the Warriors (11-8-4 overall) went undefeated in five games, all of which would have ended the team's season, not allowing a goal in a string of 548 minutes before the Scarlet Raptors' first goal on Sunday, and winning twice in shootouts, including against defending national champion Messiah in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals.

Rutgers-Camden (20-0-2 overall) finally broke the string of scoreless minutes in the 11th minute when Bobby Foster scored on a rebounded shot. The Scarlet Raptors added two more goals in the half, with Connor Huff and Juan Rojas each finding the back of the net before Mike Ryan, who entered the week eighth in the nation in goals, added the final one in the 65th minute.

The Warriors continued to fight and push throughout the game, with both freshmen Moises Lazo (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Mike Amaya (Stockton, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) each firing three shots on net and junior Adam Kuntz (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) taking two shots.

Junior Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East), who finished the season with a 0.91 goals against average – the fourth-best mark in school history, made five stops in the game's first 84 minutes before freshman Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) played the final six.

Scarlot Raptor keeper Mike Randall stopped eight shots in net to earn his 12th shutout of the season.

The Scarlet Raptors will move on to the sweet 16 to face the winner of Stevens Tech and York (Pa.), which is set for a 5 p.m. start on Nov. 17.
