Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – A goal in the second minute of the second half was enough to help the Stevenson University men's soccer team sneak past Lycoming College in both teams' Commonwealth Conference opener on Saturday evening, Oct. 5, at Mustang Stadium.

The Warriors (5-4-1 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth) were aggressive throughout the game, taking 10 shots and gaining three corners, while the Mustangs took 11 shots and were whistled 10 times.

Stevenson's Andrew Garner scored on a header of a cross from Steve Hamilton with 43:01 left on the clock in the second half.

Lycoming also had its shots to tie the game late, as a cross with 30 seconds left cruised across the goal box and was knocked out by Stevenson (6-5-1 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) before it could reach two Lycoming forwards. On the ensuing corner kick, a foul on Lycoming was called, ensuring the win for Stevenson.

In net, junior goalkeeper Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) posted three saves for the Warriors. Pat Carey stopped five shots in the shutout for Stevenson.

The Warriors continue their five-game road trek on Tuesday, Oct. 8, when they head to Lebanon Valley for a 4 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match.
