ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A pair of pins by senior 184-pounder Tyler Cunningham (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) helped seal a pair of wins at the Pa./N.Y. Duals for the Lycoming College wrestling team, beating SUNY Oswego, 22-17, and RIT, 21-12, on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 5, at Clark Gym.
 
The Warriors (3-2 overall) swept their way through the Pa./N.Y. Duals for the 11^th time in the 15 years that the program has attended the event. It was the fourth time in the last five years that Lycoming finished the duals with a perfect record.
 
Cunningham’s pin against RIT gave Lycoming its first lead of the dual meet and served as the mid-point of a five-match run for the Warriors that helped it take a 21-12 decision.
 
Down 6-0, sophomore Caleb Willey (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) got the Warriors on the board with a 9-3 win at 141 pounds. A pair more Tiger wins helped RIT (0-6 overall) take a 12-3 lead, but the Warriors dominated from there, taking the last five matches.
 
Junior Greg Wetzel (Arlington, N.Y./Pleasant Valley) posted a 3-0 win over Tyler Brooks-Lambert at 165 pounds to start the run and junior Johnathan Secor (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) followed with a 9-5 win over Nick Fisk at 174 pounds to bring Lycoming within three at 12-9.
 
Cunningham’s pin in 4:07 against Collin Doane gave the Warriors a 15-12 lead and sophomore Sam Batchelor (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) added a 9-3 win at 197 pounds against Jake Swearingen to make it a six-point lead. Freshman Max Lamport (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) capped the win with a 7-2 win over Nick Stewart at heavyweight for his first career dual meet win.
 
The Warriors are now 26-2 all-time against RIT and they avenged a 19-16 loss to the Tigers in 2012, the first loss against RIT since 1960.
 
A run of five straight wins, capped by a pin by Cunningham at 184 pounds, propelled the Warriors to a 22-17 win over SUNY Oswego in the opening round match of the duals.
 
Sophomore Cody Barbiche (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) got the Warriors started with a 6-1 win over Johnny Marquez at 125 pounds, but the Lakers (1-2 overall) responded with a pair of wins at to take a 6-3 lead.
 
Freshman Matt Neff (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) tied the match at six at 149 pounds, posting a 6-2 win over Dustin Jones, starting Lycoming’s decisive run. Sophomore Brian Watkins (Bear Gap, Pa./Southern Columbia) earned a bonus point with a 12-2 win over Justin Patus at 157, junior Greg Wetzel (Arlington, N.Y./Pleasant Valley) outlasted Blake Fisher, 4-3, winning in overtime at 165 pounds and junior Johnathan Secor (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) added a 5-1 decision over Scott Bova at 174 pounds, giving the Warriors a 16-6 lead.
 
Cunningham followed with the meet-clinching pin at 184 pounds, flattening Brandon Jones with 1:00 left in the first period.
 
The Lakers closed the meet with a tech fall and a pin, but it was too late to catch up to the Warriors, who improved to 24-7 all-time against SUNY Oswego.
 
The Warriors get back on the mat on Friday, Jan. 11, when they begin the 25^th annual Budd Whitehill National Duals at Lamade Gym.
