Warrior men extend winning streak to seven as swimmers sweep King’s, FDU-Florham

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – With a pair of sweeps, the Lycoming College swimming teams reached some impressive milestones during their double dual meet with King’s and FDU-Florham on Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Wilkes-Barre Catholic Youth Center. The men’s team, with a 166-76 win over King’s (Pa.) and 189-47 win over FDU-Florham, improved its winning streak to seven meets, the team’s longest since 1965-66. The women, with a 158-93 win over King’s (Pa.) and 191-38 win over FDU-Florham, secured the program’s 12th straight winning season.
 
The men’s team extended its winning streak to seven meets, the longest at the school in 46 years, while winning 13 of the meet’s 14 events, led by two wins each from freshmen Kyle Garase (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold), Josh Thomas (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) and Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick).
 
Garase posted wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.48) and 100-yard butterfly (53.77), Thomas notched victories in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:12.10) and 200-yard backstroke (2:10.79) and Endler won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.37) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:46.92).
 
Sophomore Daniel Woods (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) won the 100-yard backstroke (58.15), senior Nate Oropollo (Aldan, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) took the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.65), junior Jack Port (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) finished first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.94), junior Zack Brower (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) won the 50-yard freestyle (23.00) and freshman Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) won the 100-yard freestyle (51.23).
 
The Warriors (7-1 overall, 7-1 MAC) also swept the relays, with the team of Woods, Garase, Endler and Oropollo posting a time of 1:43.43 to win the 200-yard medley and the team of junior Ben Sainvilier (Silver Spring, Md./Heights School), Apostolu, junior C.J. Arhontakis (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) and Woods took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:34.74.
 
The women’s team secured its 12th straight winning season, the longest stretch in school history, while improving to 6-3 overall with the sweep of King’s and FDU-Florham. The team was led by three wins from sophomore Danielle Loiseau (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) for the second straight day.
 
Loiseau, who posted wins in the 200-meter freestyle (2:18.25), 100-meter freestyle (1:05.02) and 400-meter freestyle (5:06.40) at Lebanon Valley on Saturday, added wins in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.14), the 100-yard freestyle (57.60) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.93).
 
Junior Jennie Marosits (Mt. Lakes, N.J./Mt. Lakes) posted wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11.48.75) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:47.82), sophomore BethAnn Schwoyer (Williamsport, Pa./Homeschooled) posted wins in the 100- (1:04.79) and 200-yard (2:18.45) backstroke, as the Warriors won 12 of the 14 events during the meet.
 
Sophomore Lexi Follweiler (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley) posted a win in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.71), freshman Jilly Flynn (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.21) and senior Elisa Becker (Reston, Va./South Lakes) won the 50-yard freestyle (27.30).
 
Like the men, the Warriors swept both relays, with the 200-yard medley team of Schwoyer, Flynn, Loiseau and sophomore Brigid Clark (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield) posted a time of 1:58.99 and the 200-yard freestyle team of Clark, Schwoyer, Follweiler and Becker capped the meet with a winning time of 1:48.87.
 
The Warrior men will try to extend the streak to eight straight wins in the season dual meet finale on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. when they face Middle Atlantic Conference foe Arcadia. The women, meanwhile, will look for their fourth straight win.
 
During one of the meet’s two intermissions, the teams will honor the six swimming seniors: Elisa Becker (Reston, Va./South Lakes), Caitlin DeAngelo (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg), Lindsey Hunsicker (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Hope Weber (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) from the women’s team and Jehiel Boner (Springville, Pa./Elk Lake) and Nate Oropollo (Aldan, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) from the men’s team.
