WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – An overtime tally by Josh Wollaston helped Alvernia University sneak past the Lycoming College men’s soccer team, 1-0, in the Commonwealth Conference opener for both teams on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
The Warriors (3-4-1 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth) took nine shots in the match and forced Alvernia keeper Ben Diller to make four stops, but it was the Crusaders (6-2-3 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) that finally dented the scoreboard in the 96
th minute. After already forcing Lycoming to make two saves in the overtime frame, Kyle Marytyn found Wollaston in front of the Lycoming defense and Wollaston slipped a shot just past the outstretched arms of the Lycoming goalkeeper.
Senior
James Quinn (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) made seven saves in net for the Warriors.
The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Albright for a Commonwealth Conference match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
