WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Charlie Vess (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) scored twice in the second half to lift the Lycoming College men’s soccer team to a 3-1 home-opening come-from-behind win over Keystone in non-conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

After a breakaway attempt by Vess was rejected in the first minute of the second half, he got the Warriors (2-1 overall) the lead in the 62nd minute when sophomore Luke Klingler (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) found him streaking on the left side and Vess delivered a strike into the left corner.

He added a penalty kick goal in the 89th minute to seal the win after a Keystone (2-3 overall) handball in the box.

The Giants got on the board first, scoring in the seventh minute after a hard foul in the box led to a penalty kick goal from Jake Younie. However, the Warriors controlled tempo for much of the rest of the half, and in the 24th minute, Klinger found senior Pat Marion (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico), who headed the equalizer into the right corner.

Senior James Quinn (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East) earned the win in net after making five saves and allowing one goal in 75 minutes. Sophomore Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) made one stop in the last 15 minutes.

Dany O’Rourke made four stops for the Giants, allowing three goals.

The win helped the Warriors improve to 5-1-2 all-time in home openers on the artificial turf at the Shangraw Athletic Complex and 35-20-3 all-time in home openers.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 15, when they head to Geneva for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
