WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College head swimming coach
Jerry Hammaker won his 75
th career match with the men’s program, as the Warriors swept their home-opening meet against Middle Atlantic Conference newcomer Hood, with the men posting an 144-106 win and the women notched a 131-118 win at the Lamade Gym Natatorium on Saturday, Nov. 3.
Hammaker, with his 75 wins with the men’s program, moved within six wins of the school record holder, Mort Rauff, who went 81-69-2 during his 13 years at the helm of the Warriors from 1960-73. Hammaker, who is in his 12
th year with the team, is 75-36 with the men and he is also 81-31-1 with the women, as he already holds the school record for most wins with that program.
The men’s team was led by freshman
Kyle Garase (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold), who started his career at Lamade Gym Natatorium with three individual events, posting wins in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles and the 200-yard individual medley, as Warrior rookies combined to win six events. Garase posted times of 22.61 in the 50, 50.54 in the 100 and 2:05.45 in the 200-yard individual medley.
Freshman
Josh Thomas (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) added a time of 11:19.95 to win the 1,000-yard freestyle and freshman
Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) won both breaststroke events, posting a time of 1:05.81 in the 100 and 2:24.18 in the 200.
Junior
Jack Port (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.53 and sophomore
Dan Woods (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) posted a time of 54.90 to win the 100-yard butterfly.
The Warriors also won both relays with the 200-yard medley team of Woods, Endler, Thomas and Garase posting a time of 1:41.43, and the 200-yard freestyle team of freshman
Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), junior
Jake Pelinsky (Southwick, Mass./Westfield), Woods and junior
Zack Brower (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) posted a time of 1:32.65.
Sophomore captain
Danielle Loiseau (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) led the Warrior women to their 131-118 win over Hood, posting wins in both butterfly events for the Warriors. Loiseau posted a time of 2:15.80, just 1.24 seconds behind the school record of 2:14.66 set by Denise Zimmerman in 1982, in the 200-yard event and added a time of 1:01.94 in the 100, helping clinch the win.
Lycoming got off to a good start with a win in the 200-yard medley, as the team of sophomore
BethAnn Schwoyer (Williamsport, Pa./Homeschooled), freshman
Jilly Flynn (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), Loiseau and sophomore
Brigid Clark (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield) posted a time of 1:55.67.
After falling in the next two events, Schwoyer got the Warriors back on track with a time of 1:03.71 to win the 100-yard backstroke and Flynn followed with a time of 1:13.70 to win her first collegiate race, the 100-yard breaststroke. Loiseau followed with a 200-yard butterfly win and Clark posted a time of 26.82 to win the 50-yard freestyle before sophomore
Lexi Follweiler (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley) notched a time of 58.05 to win the 100-yard freestyle. Hood won the next three events, but Loiseau’s win in the 100-yard butterfly clinched the meet.
To cap the meet, the 200-yard freestyle team of Follweiler, senior
Lindsey Hunsicker (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), freshman
Felicia Sloyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and Clark posted a time of 1:49.11 to post the win.
The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, Nov. 10, when they head to Elizabethtown for a 2 p.m. dual meet.
