READING, Pa. – Seniors
Mike Krebs (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and
Kory Barto (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) each helped each other on first-half goals to help lift the Lycoming College men’s soccer team to its sixth straight win over Albright College, 3-1, on Wednesday night, Oct. 3, at Gene Shirk Stadium.
After Albright (7-5 overall, 1-1 Commonwealth) tied the score in the 29
th minute, Barto hit the crossbar just 35 seconds later and Krebs swooped in and found the back of the net to give Lycoming (4-4-1 overall, 1-1 Commonwealth) the lead back.
The Warriors kept the pressure on and with less than a minute left in the half, the team gained a corner, Krebs took a shot that was blocked and then Barto hit paydirt with just 43 seconds left in the half to make it 3-1.
In the second half, the Lions posted seven shots and posted five corner kicks while holding Lycoming to just two shots, but senior
James Quinn (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) notched two saves and another Albright shot hit the crossbar in the final 45 minutes to help the Warriors even their conference record.
Senior
Charlie Vess (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) got the Warriors on the board in the sixth minute, forcing a turnover and beating the goalkeeper for the first goal. Albright got an equalizer in the 29
th minute when Kiko DeLeon took a cross and hit the back post, tying the game and setting up Krebs’ and Barto’s dramatics.
Quinn finished with five saves, as he earned his 15
th career win for Lycoming. Austin Aldinger made two saves in the first half while allowing three goals. Ryan Barr played the second half for Albright.
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 6, when they head to Widener for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at 7:30 p.m.
