READING, Pa. – A first half goal by junior
Briana Riddick (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) helped the Lycoming College women’s soccer team cut into an early lead, but a pressing Lycoming offense was never able to draw even, falling to Albright, 4-1, at a rain-soaked Gene Shirk Stadium on Tuesday night, Oct. 2.
In an offense-filled first half, the Lions jumped out with goals from Erin Hand and Jena Muller in the first 13 minutes, but just eight minutes later, Riddick scored her first goal to cut the lead in half. However, Jordan Cassidy expanded the lead to 3-1 in the 30
th minute. Lycoming wasn’t done though, and a corner kick in the 38
th minute led to a shot by junior
Spencer Larson (Edgewater, Md./South River) that clanked off the crossbar.
Lycoming was aggressive early in the second half, getting two early corners and forcing the Albright keeper to make a save, but Albright iced the game with a final goal in the 82
nd minute by Cassidy.
Kelly Burian faced five Lycoming shots and made three saves in 84 minutes before Elizabeth McBride played the final six in net.
Sophomore
Sam Stropko (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) made two saves for the Warriors, as Albright took 13 shots in the game.
The Warriors stay on the road, heading for a Commonwealth Conference match at Widener University on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
