WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Three Lycoming College wrestlers won a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 7, as the team split a pair of matches at the Pa./N.Y. duals at Lamade Gym, as the Warriors downed SUNY Oswego, 25-18, before falling to RIT, 19-16.
 
The Warriors (2-3 overall) used three pins in the opening match to rack up nine bonus points en route to a 25-18 win over the Lakers (0-3 overall).
 
Senior Stephen Hinton (Montclair, Va./Forest Park), wrestling for the first time in over a month after an injury, started the Warriors out with a pin in 2:27 over Oswego’s Kevin Ramkishun. After a loss at 133, freshman Caleb Willey (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) followed with an 8-4 win over Brad Mayville at 141 pounds to give the Warriors a 9-3 lead before a pair of losses tied the score at nine through five bouts.
 
Sophomore Greg Wetzel (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) got the Warriors back on track at 165 pounds with a 9-0 win over Sam Farfaglia and senior Josh Gochnauer (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) added a pin in 2:05 against Eric Anderson at 174 to give the Warriors a 19-9 lead. After a pin by the Lakers, senior Russ Korbul (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) clinched the match with a pin in 2:01 over Joseph Friedel.
 
In the nightcap, RIT clinched its first win over the Warriors since 1960 with a pin in the heavyweight match to take a 19-16 decision and complete the duals with a 2-0 record.
 
Hinton picked up a 7-3 win over Shin Wakabayashi at 125 pounds and Willey added a 7-2 win over Dan Haughton before freshman Lucas Wisniewski (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) posted an 11-1 major decision against Jake Harvey at 149 pounds to give the Warriors a 10-3 win.
 
Three straight wins by the Tigers (4-3 overall) gave them a 13-10 lead, but Lycoming fought back, as junior Tyler Cunningham (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) notched a 9-5 win at 184 pounds over Tyler Brent and Korbul posted a 5-2 win over Tim Thurnau at 197, setting up the closing match.
 
The Warriors get back on the mat with the start of the Budd Whitehill Duals. The two-day, 20-team tournament at Lamade Gym is set to start on Friday, Jan. 13 at 9 a.m.
