WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Senior
Jussae Hanford (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) doubled her career goal total with a pair of second-half tallies to ensure the Lycoming College women’s soccer team a 3-0 win in the second annual Battle for the Lumber with Penn College on Saturday evening, Sept. 17, at the Balls Mills Soccer Complex.
The Warriors (1-3 overall) retained the Lumber, as the senior duo of Hanford and
Kelly Prendergast (Edison, N.J./Rutgers Prep) each factored into multiple goals, with Prendergast finding the net in the 18th minute, as she got a through pass in the middle of the box from sophomore
Ashtin Wiley (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle West) and found the back of the net.
The Warriors fired 14 shots in the first half, but couldn’t increase the lead until Hanford found the back of the net in the 47th minute on the 10th career assist from Prendergast. Hanford flew down the right side and fired the ball in the left corner. She added to the lead in the 58th minute with another tally, as junior
Leslie Kester (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) found Hanford in between two defenders and she found the back of the net.
In all, the Warriors fired 26 shots in the contest, making the Wildcats’ keeper, Stephanie Koleno to make four stops. For Lycoming, junior
Jennifer Basch (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) stopped three of the Wildcats’ seven shots for the shutout.
Penn College falls to 0-2-2.
The Warriors will have a quick turnaround as they host Pitt-Bradford on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
