Warriors finish seventh at Commonwealth Golf Championship

HERSHEY, Pa. –
Junior Robert Jumper (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) moved up a slot on the leaderboard during Sunday, May 1’s final round at the Commonwealth Conference Golf Championship, leading the Lycoming College men’s golf team with a  14th-place finish as the Warriors finished seventh in the eight-team field at the par-71, 6,600-yard Hershey Country Club East Course.

Elizabethtown won the conference title with a two-day total of 640 while the Warriors finished seventh with a 36-hole score of 736, beating Arcadia by 40 strokes. Messiah’s Matt Burkhart took the individual medalist honors, finishing with a two-day score of 6-over-par 148 to distance himself from the 40-man field by five strokes.

Jumper had a breakthrough tournament for the Warriors, as he posted a second-round 84 to wrap up the tournament with a score of 170, just four strokes shy of earning All-Commonwealth Conference honors.

Senior Jed Simpson (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) moved up three slots on the leaderboard on Sunday, as he shot a season-best 86 on the second day to finish 25th. Freshman Zach Czap (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Oscelola), sophomore Drew Tompkins (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery) and senior Josh Chmelik (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) each finished tied for 34th, as Czap finished with a second-day 105, Tompkins fired a 97 and Chmelik posted a 98. All three finished with a two-day score of 198.
