Lycoming golf team opens season at Moravian College Spring Invitational

DANIELSVILLE, Pa.
– The Lycoming College golf team opened its 2011 campaign on a rain-soaked Thursday afternoon at the Woodstone Country Club as part of the Moravian College Spring Invitational. Senior Jed Simpson (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) led the Warriors in the initial tournament, finishing 67th with a round of 90, as the team finished 18th.

Senior Josh Chmelik (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) followed closely behind, carding a 91 on the 6,437-yard par-72 course to finish tied for 71st. Freshman Zach Czap (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Oscelola) posted a 102, junior Ben  Brody (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) finished with a 103 and sophomore Drew Tompkins (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery) notched a 113.

Muhlenberg took the team title with a team score of 321, holding off Moravian and Rutgers-Camden by one stroke. The Warriors finished with a score of 386, finishing ahead of Penn State-Berks by a stroke.

Simpson and Chmelik each posted five pars, with Simpson notching three on par 3s, and Czap posted four pars for the Warriors.

The Warriors get back on the course on Monday, April 4, when they head to Lebanon Country Club for a 12:30 p.m. tee time at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational.
