WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
An early first half goal by junior Charlie Vess (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) wasn’t enough for the Lycoming College men’s soccer team, as Elizabethtown scored twice later in the half and held off several furious Lycoming rallies late in the game to escape with a 2-1 Commonwealth Conference win on a misty Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 19.

Junior Mike Krebs (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) started the goal-scoring play for the Warriors (7-7-2 overall, 1-3-2 Commonwealth), getting the ball deep in the backfield on the left side of the field. He crossed the field with a long pass through the middle of the field to hit Vess in stride on the right side. Out in front of the defense, Vess fired a shot high into the center of the net from 20 yards out to give the Warriors an early lead.

Nine minutes later, the Blue Jays (8-5 overall, 3-2 Commonwealth) tied the match when Ross Withrow scored and Elizabethtown took the lead in the second half when Eric Brokowicz fired a shot into the lower right corner.

The Blue Jays got out to a quick start in the second half, taking four shots early, but the Warriors controlled much of the rest of the half, as they fired nine shots in the second half and outshot Elizabethtown, 15-12, in the contest.

Freshman Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) made four saves in net for the Warriors and Eric Carr stopped four shots for the Blue Jays.

Lycoming hosts its final home Commonwealth Conference game on Saturday, Oct. 22, when Albright comes to the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 12 p.m. The team will honor its seniors at halftime.
