Warriors fall to top-ranked Falcons

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
The Lycoming College men’s soccer team succumbed to five first-half goals from top-ranked Messiah College to fall, 5-0, in Commonwealth Conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on an overcast Tuesday, Oct. 11.
 
Shelden Myer scored in the eighth minute off a header and the Falcons (12-0-1 overall, 3-0 Commonwealth) added two more goals in the next eight minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Late in the half, brothers Danny and Jack Thompson each scored to round out the score, as the Falcons took 13 shots in the half.
 
The Warriors (7-6-1 overall, 1-2 Commonwealth) maintained control of the ball early in the second half and got a couple one-on-one chances, but the Falcon defense was able to make plays to end the threats.
 
Freshman Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) made two saves in net for the Warriors and freshman Nick Bruno (Glenside, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep) made three stops in the second stanza.
 
Jake Berry made one save in the first half for the Falcons before yielding to Brandon West and Aaron Hennigan.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday when they head to Arcadia for a 3 p.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 15.
