Warriors fall to Crusaders, 2-0, in Commonwealth opener

READING, Pa. – Junior Jennifer Basch (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) posted 14 saves for the Lycoming College women’s soccer team, but the Warriors fell at Alvernia, 2-0, in the Commonwealth Conference opener on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Karli Nestor scored the opening goal in the 14th minute for the Crusaders (6-4 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) and Amy Mesce added a second tally in the 68th minute, as both goals came off corner kicks.

Basch made eight saves in the first period and added six more in the second for the Warriors (2-8 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth).

Kaila Druetto made two saves to earn the shutout for the Crusaders.

The Warriors get back on the field on Friday, Oct. 7 when they face Widener at the home of the MLS’ Philadelphia Union, PPL Park, at 6 p.m.
