WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Bonus points in four of the first five matches helped the Lycoming College wrestling team roll out to a 22-0 lead en route to a 31-11 win over King’s College in non-conference action at Lamade Gym on Thursday night.
Junior Stephen Hinton (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) got the Warriors (10-9 overall) off to a fast start, as he pinned Richard Dorsey in the middle of the second period at 125 pounds before sophomore Terrell Nixon (Sharon Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) posted an 8-0 major decision thanks to three takedowns against Richard Biesadesky at 133 pounds.
Senior Mike Maurer (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) followed with a technical fall of James Straight, tilting the Monarch four times, including three in the second period to notch the 15-0 win. After a 6-2 decision by senior Isaiah Britton (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) over Chris Mazzocchi at 149 pounds, senior Eric Grecco (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) posted his first win of the year, an 8-0 major decision against Gordon Custer, giving the Warriors a 22-0 lead.
Sophomore David Smith (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) posted a 5-3 win in double overtime, notching a takedown after an escape to down Frank Marinucci at 165 pounds. Sophomore Jefferson Thomas (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area) added a 4-1 win over Ahmed Burton at 174 pounds.
After dropping a match at 184 pounds, senior Russ Korbul (Asbury, N.J./Northhampton C.C.) posted a dramatic 3-1 sudden victory win over Peter Dwyer, notching a takedown early in the overtime period to earn the decision and wrap up Lycoming’s scoring.
King's fell to 1-18 on the year.
The Warriors get back in action on Monday, Jan. 31, when they head to East Stroudsburg University for a 7 p.m. match.
