Warriors sweep Dutchmen in MAC action

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior Myles Biggs (Easton, Pa./Easton) led the way for the Lycoming College men’s swimming team, winning three individual races to guide the Warriors to a 132-112 win at Lebanon Valley College in Middle  Atlantic Conference action on Saturday, Jan. 15. Four women’s swimmers posted at least two individual wins to help the Warriors sweep the Flying Dutchmen, taking the women’s meet, 151-101.

Biggs led the Warriors (3-3 overall, 3-2 MAC), as he posted wins in the 800-meter freestyle (9:42.97), the 400-meter freestyle (4:40.28) and the 400-meter individual medley (5:19.16), as he bested junior Joe Andrie (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) (5:24.33) and freshman Peter Fields (Burke, Va./Robinson) (5:24.92) in a 1-2-3 Warrior finish in the IM.

Andrie was a piece of 29 points for the Warriors, notching wins in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:10.62) and the 200-meter breaststroke (2:37.54) after also swimming a leg with the winning 200-meter medley relay (2:11.76). Freshman Zack Brower (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North), likewise, won two races and a relay, as he won the 200-meter freestyle (2:12.20) and the 100-meter freestyle (57.55) before closing the meet with a win in the 200-meter freestyle relay (1:46.36).

Freshmen C.J. Arhontakis (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) and Luke Dohrman (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) each also added individual wins, with Arhontakis take the 50-meter freestyle at 25.53 and Dohrman winning the 100-meter butterfly at 1:08.63.

In the 200-meter medley relay, Andrie was joined by freshman Jack Port (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff), Dohrman and Arhontakis and Brower was joined by freshman Christian Baxter (Springfield, Pa./Monsignor Bonner), freshman Jake Pelinsky (Southwick, Mass./Westfield) and Arhontakis took the 200-meter freestyle relay.

Pelinsky also posted a pair of second-place finishes, behind Andrie, in the breaststroke races.

Lebanon Valley is 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the MAC.

On the women’s side, senior Stacy Flick (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) posted three wins and freshman Jennie Marosits (Mt. Lakes, N.J./Mt. Lakes), sophomore Lindsey Hunsicker (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and sophomore Hope Weber (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) each posted two individual wins as the Warriors glided to a 151-101 win over the Dutchmen (5-5 overall, 3-4 MAC).

Flick notched wins in the 50-meter freestyle (29.17) and both the 100- (1:16.70) and 200-meter (2:52.96) breaststroke to lead the Warriors (3-3-1 overall, 2-2-1 MAC).

Marosits posted wins in the 800-meter freestyle (10:35.13) and the 200-meter backstroke (2:37.05). Hunsicker added wins in the 200-meter freestyle (2:23.52) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:05.87) and Weber notched wins in the 200-meter butterfly (2:44.91) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:14.53).

Senior Meg Emery (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) posted a time of 1:13.84 to win the 100-meter backstroke to round out the Warriors 10 individual race wins. Emery also finished second in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:37.48. The team of Emery, Flick, Weber and Hunsicker also added a win with a time of 2:11.76 in the 200-meter medley relay.

Sophomore Caitlin DeAngelo (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) and sophomore Elisa Becker (Reston,  Va./South Lakes) each added two second-place finishes for the Warriors. DeAngelo finished behind Emery in the 100-meter backstroke (1:13.84) and the 50-meter freestyle (30.60). Becker took second in the 800-meter freestyle (10:43.42) and the 200-meter butterfly (2:44.91).

The Warriors get back in the pool with a MAC tri-meet against King’s and FDU-Florham at King’s on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m.
