Shaner, Rae set Balduino-era marks as Warriors rout Penn College, 11-0

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior #Kati Shaner# (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) scored four goals and sophomore Jessica Rae (New Freedom, Pa./Hereford) added a goal and four assists as the Lycoming College women’s soccer team set a school-record by posting an 11-0 win over Penn College on Saturday afternoon at the Shangraw Athletic Complex in the first Battle for the Lumber.

Shaner scored the first three goals of the game in the fifth, seventh and eighth minutes, giving Lycoming an early three-goal lead. The team kept the pressure on, as senior #Kaitlin Horn# (Ringtown, Pa./North Schuylkill), freshman Kristi Constantino (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) and sophomore Rebeccah Bizon (Brookline, Vt./Leland & Gray Union) each added goals before the half. Rae assisted on three goals in the first half.

In the second half, Rae added her first goal of the season just 1:47 into the half and Shaner added her fourth goal just four minutes into the half. Shaner, with her fifth goal of the season, is the lone player in the Joe Balduino-era to score four goals in a game and Rae, who assisted on Horn’s second goal 12 minutes into the half, is the lone player to post four assists in Balduino’s four years at the helm.

To close out the scoring, freshmen Ashley Irwin (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill) and Ashtin Wiley (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle West) added goals from deep.

Amanda Reedy made 14 saves in net for Penn College, as she saw 39 shots in the game. Freshman Caitlin Dougherty (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and sophomore #Jennifer Basch# (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) combined on the shutout for Lycoming.

Lycoming get back on the field on Tuesday when it heads to Juniata for a 4:30 p.m. match.
