EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – After going four games without a goal, the Lycoming College men’s soccer team snapped out of the stretch with gusto, pouring in four goals and allowing Wilkes to take just seven shots as the Warriors posted a 4-0 non-conference win on Wednesday night, Oct. 27.
Senior captain Brad Houseknecht (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) was the first to get the Warriors (7-10-1 overall) on the board, as he took a corner from freshman Miguel Medrano (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) and delivered a shot into the right bottom corner of the net in the 41st minute.
Medrano, forced into playing extra minutes due to a rash of injuries in the Warrior midfield, added to the lead just four minutes later and with just 50 seconds before the half. After getting a lead-in pass from sophomore Dominick Dorsey (Manchester, Md./North Carroll), Medrano beat the lone defender between him and the goal to give the Warriors a two-goal cushion at halftime.
While the Warriors took just four shots in the second half, they made two count, starting with a goal from junior Randon Wilston (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield), who knocked in a rebound off a loose ball from 12 yards out in the 66th minute. Senior Joe Karslo (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) closed out the scoring with his first goal in a span of 58 games, as the defender converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute.
For Wilston, Medrano and Karslo, the goals were all the first of their season. Houseknecht moved into second on the team with his fourth tally of the season.
Lycoming held an 11-7 advantage in shots, forcing Wilkes’ keeper Kaleb Smith to make five saves. Sophomore James Quinn (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) made three saves to record his third shutout of the season for the Warriors.
Wilkes falls to 5-13 overall.
The Warriors wrap up their season on Saturday when they head to Albright for a 2 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match.
