Shaner reaches 10 goals but Warriors fall at Elizabethtown, 5-1

Box Score

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Senior Kati Shaner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) became the sixth player in the Lycoming College women’s soccer team’s history to reach 10 goals in a season, but Elizabethtown used four first-half goals to hand the Warriors a 5-1 Commonwealth Conference loss on Saturday evening, Oct. 23.

Shaner scored to tie the match at one in the 21st minute on her second goal on a corner kick in as many games, as she joined fellow senior Kaitlin Horn (Ringtown, Pa./North Schuylkill) in the 10-goal club, as the duo are the first in school history to post 10 goals in the same season. Horn leads the team with 12 scores.

The Blue Jays (7-6-3 overall, 2-2 Commonwealth) scored in the 14th minute before Shaner drew the Warriors (7-7-1 overall, 0-5-1 Commonwealth) even just seven minutes later. However, goals from Kristin Eck and Kelsey Boehmer helped the Blue Jays take control of the game in the next six minutes and Rebekah Reynolds scored twice, once more in the first half and once in the second, to round out the scoring.

Freshman Caitlin Dougherty (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) made four saves and sophomore Jennifer Basch (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) added one as the Blue Jays took 20 shots. Jess Manchak and Tori Reynolds combined for two saves.

The Warriors close the season on Saturday, Oct. 30, when they head to Albright for a Commonwealth Conference match at 12 p.m.
