Warriors fall to regionally-ranked Knights, 2-1

Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A late comeback that featured a game-tying goal from sophomore Leslie Kester (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) fell short, as the Mid-Atlantic Region’s fifth-ranked Arcadia University scored the game-winner in the 81st minute to post a 2-1 win over the Lycoming College women’s soccer team on Saturday at the Shangraw Athletic Complex in the Commonwealth Conference opener for both teams.

The Warriors (6-3 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth) tied the match in the 76th minute, as freshman Spencer Larson (Edgewater, Md./South River) found Kester, who drilled a shot into the lower right corner. However, the Knights (9-2-1 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) answered back just five minutes later, as Sara Volk-Perez crossed a ball to Stephanie Edson, who headed it into the net.

Volk-Perez got the Knights on the board in the first half, putting a shot into the lower right corner in the 35th minute on a give from Brittany Drosdak, setting up the second half dramatics.

Freshman Caitlin Dougherty (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) made six saves in net, as she faced down 14 Arcadia shots. Jackie Law made seven saves for the Knights, as she faced nine Warrior shots.

The Warriors will get back on the field on Wednesday when they face the College of St. Elizabeth in non-conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
