Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Lycoming College women’s soccer team played Susquehanna University to a 2-2 draw in both teams season opener on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Freshman Leslie Kester scored the equalizer with just under two minutes left to play in regulation.
The tie sets both Lycoming and Susquehanna’s records at 0-0-1 on the season.
Despite Lycoming controlling much of the action in the opening 20 minutes, Susquehanna was first to find the back of the net as the Crusaders capitalized on a two-on-one situation at 18:27. The Lady Warriors evened the score on a Shaner-to-Shaner corner kick. Junior forward Kati (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) sailed the ball into the box before twin sister midfielder Kari took a beautiful angle to the ball and finished the goal. Kari (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) led the game in shots, taking 10 on the day, placing five on goal.
After going to the locker rooms at halftime in a 1-1 tie, the Crusaders opened the second half with a goal at 53:04. Not to be outdone, Kester (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) made her first NCAA goal count as she blasted a shot from near the midfield line and put the pull just out of reach of the Susquehanna goalkeeper to tie the game.
Lycoming controlled both overtime periods, taking five total shots in the extra frames, but could not find the goal. The Lady Warriors outshot Susquehanna 20-8 throughout the game.
The next two Lycoming games are slated for Friday and Saturday Sept. 4 and 5 when the Lady Warriors travel to Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa. to face The College of New Jersey on Friday at 4 p.m. and Moravian College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
