Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Junior forward Kati Shaner scored the game-winning goal with just under two minutes left in Lycoming College women soccer’s match versus Juniata College on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Kati Shaner finished the game with six total shots, four of which were on goal.
The win improves Lycoming to 2-3-1 on the season while Juniata falls to 2-5 overall.
Kati Shaner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) took advantage of a shot by freshman midfielder Jessica Rae (New Freedom, Pa./Hereford) that rebounded off a Lady Eagle defender. Kati Shaner struck the goal from 30 yards out in the 89th minute of the match.
Both teams played evenly throughout the contest. Juniata held a 7-5 advantage in first-half shots 7-5, but the Lady Warriors took control late in the second half, peppering the Eagle goalie Lauren Auster-Gussman with eight shots on goal throughout the game.
Of Lycoming’s 12 total shots, only Kati Shaner and Rae tallied multiple attempts, with Rae taking two, the second of which was blocked, leading the game-winner by Shaner.
The Lady Warriors used two goalies in the game. Sophomore Chelsea Powers (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) started the game and was forced to make three saves. Senior Brie Pepe (Lafayette, N.J./High Point Regional) earned the win after starting the second half.
Lycoming is back on its home field on Saturday, Sept. 19 when they host the visiting Pacers of Marywood University. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex.
