Men's soccer upends crosstown rival Penn College 5-1

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Behind two goals and two assists from senior forward Chris Lorenzet, the Lycoming College men’s soccer team defeated its cross-town rival Penn College 5-1 in the season opener on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

The win starts Lycoming’s season off 1-0 while Penn College slips to 0-1.

The Wildcats struck first midway through the first half when they capitalized on a deflected ball at 20:53. Lorenzet (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) scored back-to-back goals to put the Warriors up 2-1 going into half time. His first goal came at 22:02 on a pass across the box from midfielder Zach Frederick (West Chester, Pa./St. Marks). Lorenzet again found the back of the net seven minutes later at 29:00 when he split two Penn College defenders and tucked the ball under the crossbar.

Freshman midfielder Jimmy Deasel (Kingsville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) tallied his first career NCAA goal after tapping in a pass from Lorenzet at 46:48. Frederick scored the next Warrior goal at 56:36 when he stripped an opposing player near the midfield and dribbled towards the Wildcat goal and put the ball out of reach of the netminder. Sophomore forward Randon Wilston (Mainesburg, Pa./Mansfield High School) found the goal at 80:44 after receiving a pass from Lorenzet deep in Penn College’s penalty box before finishing the goal.

In the Warriors net, senior David Bald (Edgewater, Md./South River) made 10 saves to start the season. As a team, Lycoming took an astounding 26 shots, placing 17 on cage.

Lycoming’s next game will be Saturday, Sept. 5 when it hosts Centenary College for the opening game of the 2009 Lycoming College Kickoff Classic. The first game is slated for a 12 p.m. start at the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex.
