WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- In the Lycoming College men’s soccer Commonwealth opener, the Warriors fell to last year’s Conference runner-up Widener University 1-0 in overtime on Saturday, Oct. 3 at home. Freshman Jimmy Deasel led the team in shots with three.
The loss drops the Warriors to 8-3 overall and a 0-1 mark in the Commonwealth, while Widener improves to 4-5-2 on the season and 1-0 in the conference.
The two squads played evenly throughout the game, with both teams taking eight shots and two apiece in the first half.
Widener broke the tie two minutes into the overtime period on a header.
Deasel (Kingsville, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) put on shot on goal and senior goal keeper David Bald (Edgewater, Md./South River) made five saves on the day. Senior Chris Lorenzet (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) took two shots in the game, placing both on cage.
Lycoming returns to the pitch on Monday, Oct. 5 against Penn State University-Berks at home with a 4 p.m. start time.
