WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- After honoring 10 seniors prior to the game, Lycoming College rallied from down 1-0 to defeat Albright College 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Warriors controlled the pace of the game, out shooting the Lions 18-12.
Lycoming improves to 11-6-1 overall and is now 1-4-1 in the Commonwealth Conference while Albright slides to 5-9-2 on the year and 1-4-1 in the conference.
Albright jumped on the board less than five minutes into the match after a miscue on the Warrior defense resulted in an own goal. Lycoming dominated every facet of the game, including an 18-3 advantage in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks. The two teams held one another scoreless for the remainder of the first half.
Sophomore Bob Ziegler (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) tied the game at one apiece ten minutes into the second half at 54:02 after heading the ball into the goal on a Chris Lorenzet corner kick.
In the 68th minute, freshman Jimmy Deasel (Kingsville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) scored the game-winnner after taking a shot, hitting the Lions’ goalkeeper and controlling his own rebound, and burying his second shot.
Lorenzet (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) led the day in shooting, taking five shots and putting four on goal. As a team, Lycoming forced Albright’s Billy Howard to make 10 saves on 12 shots on goal. Warrior net minder David Bald (Edgewater, Md./South River) made three saves in the game.
Lycoming is on the road for its final game of the 2009 season when it travels to Annville, Pa. to face Lebanon Valley College. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31
