Men’s soccer picks up second shutout of season

Chris LorenzetWAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team defeated Waynesburg 3-0 on Saturday, Sept. 6, to improve to 2-0-1 on the season. The win was the second shutout for the Warriors this fall.

Junior Chris Lorenzet (Forest Hill, Md.) opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he split the defense and beat the keeper. Fellow junior Mike Coates (Washington, N.J.) was credited with an assist on the play.

The Warriors would add a second goal in the 74th minute when senior captain Zach Frederick (West Chester, Pa.) scored an unassisted marker, his first of the season.

Lorenzet would cap the scoring with his second goal of the night and his fourth goal this season when he beat the keeper in the 85th minute off a feed from Frederick.

Junior goalkeeper David Bald (Annapolis, Md.), last week’s Commonwealth Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, picked up his second win and second shutout this year while being credited with two saves.

Lycoming held a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Fouls were even at 13 each.

The Warriors return home to the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Saturday, Sept. 13, as host to Franklin & Marshall. That game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff and will be followed by the Lady Warriors hosting Dickinson at 4 p.m.
