HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team shutout Juniata College, 2-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 23, despite being outshot 11-9. Warrior goalkeeper David Bald turned away six shots on goal for his fourth shutout of the season.
Lycoming scored two goals in the 14th minute and held Juniata off the board for its first win in Huntingdon since the 1998 season.
Junior Chris Lorenzet (Forest Hill, Md.) scored his seventh goal of the season at 13:11 off an assist from fellow junior Mike Coates (Washington, N.J.) to put the Warriors up 1-0.
Less than 35 seconds later, at 13:44, Coates netted his own marker off an assist from senior Matt Frey (Greensboro, Md.) to make the score 2-0.
Bald (Annapolis, Md.) and the Lycoming defense were able to turn away six shots on goal from Juniata to seal the 2-0 win.
Juniata finished with advantages of 11-9 in shots, 6-4 in shots on goal and 5-1 in corner kicks.
Lycoming was called for 22 fouls with Juniata being charged with 11. Five cautions were given out in the game.
With the win, the Warriors improve to 5-2-1 while Juniata drops to 4-4.
Lycoming is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 28, at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Notes: In seven games played this season, Bald has allowed just three goals … his record in net is 5-1-1 on the year … Lorenzet’s score was his team-leading seventh goal and 19th point ... Coates’ goal was his second of the season
