WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Heavy rain and wind didn’t slow down the Lycoming College women’s soccer team as the Lady Warriors picked up a 1-0 win against Lebanon Valley College in Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 25.
Lycoming (5-6-4, 2-2-1 Commonwealth) earned its second Commonwealth win of the season, marking the first time since 2004 that the Lady Warriors have won at least two conference games (3-3 in 2004).
Bekah Shipe (Northumberland, Pa.) scored the game-winner in the 63rd minute off an assist from Kati Shaner (Hughesville, Pa.).
Brie Pepe (Lafayette, N.J.) was credited with the shutout in goal after recording four saves in the match.
The Lady Warriors outshot the Dutchmen 10-7, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Lebanon Valley (9-6-2, 2-3-0 Commonwealth) was awarded three corner kicks to Lycoming’s one.
Saturday marked senior day for the Lady Warriors, with five seniors being honored prior to the game.
Lycoming will host Susquehanna in the annual rivalry game on Monday, Oct. 27. That game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio and streamed free on the internet. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Lady Warriors could advance all the way up to second-place in the conference standings after the weekend’s games conclude. Lycoming will play at Widener next Saturday, Nov. 1, in the final regular season conference game. That game could decide the playoff fate of both teams, depending on the scores from the rest of the week.
