No. 5 Messiah hands Warriors first conference loss

Brad HouseknechtGRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 5 ranked Messiah men’s soccer team handed the Warriors their first Commonwealth Conference loss of the season with a 5-0 shutout on Saturday, Oct. 18, in front of a Homecoming crowd of nearly 3,000 fans.

The Falcons (10-2-2, 2-1-0 Commonwealth) outshot the Warriors 17-3 in total shots and 8-2 in shots on goal, while holding an advantage of 8-0 in corner kicks.

Messiah got on the board in the 14th minute and added two more goals in the first half to lead 3-0 at halftime.

The Falcons then added two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half (48th and 58th minute) to increase the lead to 5-0.

David Bald (Annapolis, Md.) was credited with the loss in goal after allowing five goals and registering three saves in the contest.

Chris Lorenzet (Forest Hill, Md.) and Chris Burgess (Bel Air, Md.) were the only Warrior players to record shots on goal.

With the loss, Lycoming drops to 9-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

The Warriors will travel to PSU-Berks on Tuesday, Oct. 21, for a non-conference match. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
