WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Lycoming College sophomore 197-pound wrestler Russel Korbul has been named Warrior of the Week for Dec. 14.
 
Korbul won his lone match of the week, defeating last season’s 197-pound Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference runner-up 5-2, sealing a 21-17 upset victory for No. 27 Lycoming against No. 17 SUNY-Brockport on Saturday, Dec. 12.
 
After being taken down in the first period, Korbul escaped and scored a takedown of his own to go up 3-2 in the match. After a scoreless second period, he chose to start the third period in the down position, earning an escape for one point. He also was credited with another point for his 1:40 of riding time.
 
Lycoming is idle until after the winter break. The Warriors open the New Year hosting the Pa./N.Y. Duals, featuring SUNY-Oswego and the Rochester Institute of Technology from New York, as well as King’s College as Pennsylvania’s second representative. Lycoming is slated to open with SUNY-Oswego at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9.
 
Lycoming’s sports information office will announce a Warrior of the Week through the 2009-10 academic year. The athletes will be featured on the homepage of the athletics Web site at athletics.lycoming.edu.
