Corl earns All-American honors to lead Warriors at NCAAs

CLEVELAND – Junior 149-pounder Trevor Corl (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte Area) posted a third-period four-point near fall to help him become the Lycoming College wrestling team's 70th All-American on Friday night, March 9, at the NCAA Division III Championships at Cleveland's Public Auditorium.

The Warriors finished the day in 30th place in a field of 66 teams with 8.5 points, with Corl scoring 4.5. Senior 174-pounder Brandon Conrad (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) notched one team point and junior heavyweight Garrett Wesneski (Canton, Pa./Canton) added three, as both finished among the nation's top 12.

Corl will move on in the consolation bracket in Saturday morning's action, which is set to begin at 10 a.m. He will face Wabash's eighth-seeded Austin Bethal to open the morning in the consolation quarterfinals.

Corl, who joins Seth Lansberry '17 as Lycoming's third straight All-American at 149 pounds, posted a 6-1 win over Spencer Nevills of Wis.-La Crosse in his All-American round match. After he took a 1-0 lead with a second-period escape, Corl used a mat return on Nevills and transformed it into a four-point near fall, pressing both of his opponent's arms towards the mat for more than a minute before Nevills earned a late escape.

In his All-American round match, he narrowly fell to Augsburg's Tanner Vassar, 9-7, despite using three reversals in the match.

Wesneski finished his season 38-4, tied for the third-most in program history, as he also went 1-2 at the tournament. He opened the tournament with a pin in 1:11 of Springfield's Joe Fusco, but fell to Wartburg's top-seeded Lance Evans, 8-0, in the quarterfinals.
