WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Sophomore 157-pounder Hadyn Swartwood (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) and junior heavyweight Garrett Wesneski (Canton, Pa./Canton Area) each won Middle Atlantic Conference titles and 15 Lycoming College wrestlers paced to lead the team to a fourth-place finish in the tournament at Scandlon Gym on Saturday, Jan. 20.
 
Swartwood cruised while becoming the first Lycoming wrestler to repeat as MAC champion since Tommy Snyder won three straight titles at heavyweight from 2004-06. The Jersey Shore native opened the tournament with a 16-0 technical fall over Wilkes' Michael Brown before posting a 6-0 decision over Messiah's Dan Swarr in the semifinals. He capped the event with a first-period pin of Messiah's Kevin Edwards in the finals, improving to 18-6 on the season.
 
Wesneski, ranked seventh in the country, reached 30 wins on the year with an impressive performance of his own right to become the first Lycoming heavyweight to win a MAC title since Snyder. He opened the tournament with a pin of Delaware Valley's Oscar Daniels in 44 seconds before defeating junior teammate Tom Lynd (Woodbury Heights, N.J./St. Augustine), 8-3 to reach the finals, where he downed Marc Isaac of Delaware Valley, 7-0, handing Isaac his first loss of the year.
 
The Warriors had two others reach the finals before finishing second in senior 174-pounder Brandon Conrad (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) and sophomore 197-pounder Brody Keefe (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley).
 
Conrad posted a 9-1 major decision against Messiah's David Stevens and added a 5-0 win over Delaware Valley's Eliias Vega to reach the finals, where the seventh-ranked grappler fell to second-ranked Ben Swarr of Messiah, 11-0.
 
Keefe reached the finals with a 13-8 decision over Delaware Valley's Carlos Martinez and a medical forfeit before falling to fourth-ranked Kyle Koser, 18-0, in the championship.
 
Freshman 133-pounder Lucas Drick (Allenwood, Pa./Montgomery Area), freshman 125-pounder  Cameron Terry (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), junior 141-pounder Andy Aguilar (Muncy, Pa./Muncy Area) each went 2-2 to place fourth and junior 184-pounder Bradley Miccio (Bloomsburg, Pa./Benton Area) won three matches to take fourth.
 
Junior 197-pounder Loc Long (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) won three bouts to take fifth, while sophomore 141-pounder Garrett Lockwood (Groton, N.Y./Groton) and Lynd each won two to take fifth. Freshman 125-pounder Shane Casey (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) and junior 174-pounder Dallas Labar (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) also finished fifth, posting a win a piece.
 
Sophomore 133-pounder Jacob Chamberlin (Allenwood, Pa./Montgomery Area) and freshman 157-pounder Keith Soules (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) each finished sixth, winning a match a piece.
 
The Warriors get back on the mat on Saturday, Jan. 27, when they head back to King's (Pa.) for a 2 p.m. dual meet.
