Trevor Corl (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte Area) and
Garrett Wesneski (Canton, Pa./Canton Area) each posted upsets in Messiah Invitational final and sophomore
Hadyn Swartwood (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) also won his weight class as the Lycoming College wrestling team won three individual titles and placed four in the season-opening tournament at Hitchcock Arena on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Wesneski provided the upset of the tournament in his first tournament at heavyweight. The University of Maryland transfer posted a 6-4 win over sixth-ranked and 2016 All-American Paul Triandafilou in the finals. To get to the finals, Wesneski ran the circuit, starting with a pin of UMBC's Ryan Nguyen in 2:17 before a 16-0 technical fall win over Messiah's Dan Kiser. He added a major decision, 9-0 win over Anthony Puca in the semifinals to set up his match with Triandafilou.

Corl, who won his first collegiate tournament at 149 pounds, posted a 6-5 win over Messiah's Stephen Maloney, ranked in the honorable mention section of the d3wrestle.com rankings. Corl opened the tournament with a pair of 16-0 technical falls, beating Gettysburg's Michael Carioscia and Elizabethtown's Daniel Smith, before pinning Gettysburg's Patrick Brody in 1:00 in the quarterfinals. He reached the finals with a 6-0 win over Adam Peris.

Swartwood won four matches en route to his title at 157 pounds, his second career collegiate tournament title. He beat Wheaton's Jonavan Huggins, 18-3, by tech fall to open the tournament before taking an 8-4 decision over Messiah's Dan Swarr in the quarterfinals. He followed that with a pin of Elizabethtown's Kyle Bythell in 2:45 to reach the finals, where he dispatched Johns Hopkins' Dominick Reyes, 7-2.

Senior
Brandon Conrad (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) finished second at 174 pounds, only losing in the finals to the nation's top ranked grappler in Messiah's Ben Swarr. He opened his year with a 6-3 win over Ursinus' AJ Cutrufello before posting a 12-2 major decision against Johns Hopkins' William Gilliam in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he notched a 3-2 win over Liberty's Sam Karel.
