Corl takes title, Warriors third at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Junior Trevor Corl (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte Area) won a tournament title for a second straight week to lead a group of seven Lycoming College wrestlers that placed to help the team finish third at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Henry Memorial Center.
 
Waynesburg won the team title with 153.5 points, finishing just ahead of Division II Wheeling Jesuit's 145. The Warriors took third with 102.5 points.

Corl made his way through the tournament with four wins to improve to 9-0 on the season, as the 149-pounder beat Washington & Jefferson's top-seeded Samuel Florentino, 7-2 in the finals. He opened the tournament with a 37-second pin of UMBC's Tommy Liu before posting a 15-0 technical fall over Thiel's Jason Miller in the quarterfinals. He posted a 3-1 win over Millersville's D.J. Mele in the semifinals to reach the finals.
 
Sophomore Hadyn Swartwood (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) finished second at 157 pounds and senior 174-pounder Brandon Conrad (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) and junior heavyweight Garrett Westneski (Canton, Pa./Canton Area) each took third.
 
Swartwood opened his tournament with a pin of Middlesex's Brandon Glover in 1:18 before posting a 3-2 win over Shane Connors in the semifinals. In the final, he dropped a 5-3 decision to Washington & Jefferson's Hunter Neely, who is listed as honorable mention by d3wrestle.com.
 
Conrad opened the tournament with a  14-1 major decision against Heidelberg's Jeremiah Slagle before falling to Division II Wheeling Jesuit's Justice Avery, 3-1 in the semifinals. He rebounded with an 8-1 win over Thomas More's Andrew Taylor.
 
Wesneski won four matches en route to his third-place finish, as he pinned Middlesex's Farhan Khan in 3:00 to start his tournament. He added an 18-0 technical fall over Devan Vanvliet of Thiel and posted an 8-5 win over UMBC's Chukwudi Kalu to reach the semifinals, where he dropped a 13-1 major decision to Waynesburg's Jake Evans, ranked fourth in the country by d3wrestle.com. He rebounded with an 8-3 win in the third-place match over Washington & Lee's Matt Kaminer.
 
Sophomore Brody Keefe (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) finished fourth at 197 pounds, as he opened the tournament with a pin of Middlesex's Alexander Bianchini before posting a 5-4 win over Wheeling Jesuit's Chase Logan to reach the semifinals, where he dropped a 17-4 decision to top-seeded Ken Burrs of Waynesburg before falling in the third-place match.
 
Sophomore Garrett Lockwood (Groton, N.Y./Groton) finished tied for fifth at 149 pounds after going 3-1 with two pins. Freshman Kyle Bennett (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) took sixth at 165 pounds, going 3-2 with two pins.
 
The Warriors will open their dual meet season next weekend when they travel to the John Carroll Wrestling Duals, where they will face Lourdes, Otterbein, John Carroll and Penn State Behrend. Wrestling is set to start at 10 a.m.
