PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Johnathan Secor (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) picked up his first career title at 174 pounds to lead a group of 11 Lycoming College wrestlers that placed at the Wildcat Open at Johnson & Wales University on Friday, Dec. 20.
 
Secor, who received a bye into the semifinals, became the first Warrior to win a tournament title since Stephen Hinton won the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference title in 2011, as he cruised to the title at 174 pounds to improve to 12-7 on the season and win his 40^th career match. He posted a fall in the semifinals against Lakeland's Derek Graber in 1:23 and added a 4-0 win over Ron Tassoni of Washington & Lee in the championship match.
 
Three Warriors also had strong performances en route to third-place finishes in junior 141-pounder Caleb Willey (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area), freshman 149-pounder Seth Lansberry (Klingerstown, Pa./Line Mountain) and senior 184-pounder Greg Wetzel (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington).
 
After an opening-round loss, Willey rebounded with five wins to improve to 13-8 on the season. He started the run with a 16-0 technical fall against Rhode Island College's Steven Duran and followed that with a 4-2 win over Marcus Popp of Niagara County Community College. He wrapped up the run with a 5-1 win over Washington & Lee's Michael Rodgers, a 12-1 major decision against Missouri Valley's Brian Bitney and beat Johnson & Wales' Gideon Yim, 10-7, in the third-place match.
 
Lansberry opened the tournament with a 9-1 major decision against Niagara County's Carmen O'Donnell. After a loss in the semifinals, Lansberry pinned freshman teammate Walter Fox (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) in 3:42 and capped the day with a pin in 33 seconds of Johnson & Wales' Ethan Farrell in the third-place match, as he improved to 17-4 overall.
 
Wetzel started the tournament with a 6-0 win over Niagara County's Cedrick Stephens, 6-0. After a loss in the semifinals to sixth-ranked Colin Lenhardt of Johnson & Wales, he rebounded with a 6-0 win over Washington & Lee's Zac Richey and a 7-0 win over Stephens in the third-place match. He improved to 15-7 on the season.
 
Freshman 197-pounder Skylar Ebner (Muncy, Pa./Muncy Area) notched two wins to place fourth, opening the tournament with an 11-6 win over Niagara County's Gunner Thomas and a pin of Washington & Lee's Bennett Lewis in the consolation semifinals in 2:20.
 
Junior heavyweight Sam Batchelor (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) and sophomore 125-pounder Jake Witmer (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) each won three matches en route to a fifth-place finish, while junior 157-pounder Brian Watkins (Bear Gap, Pa./Southern Columbia) won four en route to his fifth-place finish, including winning his 50^th career match in the process.
 
Sophomore 133-pounder Tanner Fasold (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy), 149-pounder Fox and junior 197-pounder Nik Christine (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) each placed sixth.
 
The Warriors get back on the mat in 2014, when they head to King's College for the Pa./N.Y. Duals, where they will face SUNY Oswego and RIT. The duals start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4.
