ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Two-time defending 165-pounder Chris Dahlheimer won his third Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference title on Saturday, Feb. 20. The victory advances him to his third-straight NCAA National Championship tournament. As a team, Lycoming finished fourth with 117 team points.
Dahlheimer, a senior, pinned his way to the finals, scoring a first-period fall in 1:53 over Spencer Brady of SUNY-Morrisville. In the semifinals, Dahlheimer picked up a second-period pin in 4:28 against John Dale of Ithaca. In the finals, Dahlheimer won the title 6-4 against Messiah College’s Trent Zempel.
At 141-pounds, junior
Mike Maurer took second place after falling in the finals 6-1 to Ithaca College’s Jeremy Stierly. Maurer squeaked by in his first round match 9-8 over SUNY-Cortland’s Mark Arcara. In the semifinals, Maurer advanced to the championship bout with a 7-3 decision against Brandon Heffernan of SUNY-Oswego.
Junior
Isaiah Britton also took second place. Britton scored a 10-0 major decision in his first match against Eliah Goldring of SUNY-Brockport. In the semifinals, the No. 3 seed Britton advanced to the finals with a 9-3 decision over Cortland’s No. 2 seeded Stephen Perez. Britton fell by a narrow 7-6 decision to Blaine Woszczak of Ithaca College, ranked No. 1 in the most recent Brute-Adidas Coaches Poll.
Joining Dahlheimer at the NCAA Division III Championships will be Britton, who earned a
unanimous at-large bid voted on by the coaches. The event will be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, starting on Friday, March 5 at 11 a.m.
