Dahlheimer claims 165 pound title, Warriors finish third

Chris DahlheimerOSWEGO, N.Y. --- Lycoming College’s Chris Dahlheimer claimed 165-pound weight class title at the 2009 Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference tournaments, hosted by SUNY-Oswego on Saturday, Feb. 21.

As a team, Lycoming finished third out of eight teams, accumulating 46 team points. The Warriors had five wrestlers find the podium, including one third place finish and three fourth places.

Dahlheimer, the top seed for his weight class, won his first round match 6-1 over Ithaca College’s Scott Edwards. In the second match, Dahlheimer advanced to the finals, picking up a pin over Oneonta State’s Jimmy Neal in 4:55. In the finals, Dahlheimer blanked R.I.T.'s Jason Wake 3-0.

With the title, Dahlheimer advances to the NCAA National Championships, held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Friday and Saturday, March 6-7.

At 125 pounds, Steven Hinton claimed fourth place after falling in the first round, but wrestled back to the third place bout. In the 174-pound bracket, Troy Hayre also claimed fourth place, winning the Troy Hayre first round 10-3 over Oneonta State’s Michael Hamilton. Hayre fell in the second round and wrestled back through the third place bracket.

Kyle Crouthamel fell in his first round bout at 184 pounds, but wrestled strongly, picking up a major decision and a pin to advance to the third-place bout. Brian Kopesky claimed third-place for the 197-pound class as he won his first bout in a 15-4 major decision. Falling in the second round, Kopesky moved to the second-place bracket and eventually to third-place bout where he defeated Messiah College’s Nathan Deisem, pinning him in 2:15 in the first round.
